Dorsett/McGuire Golf Classic
The 10th anniversary of the Tony Dorsett/McGuire Memorial Celebrity Golf Classic was held last Sunday at Beaver Lakes and Seven Oaks Country Clubs. Sister Mary Thaddeus, director of McGuire, welcomed the sponsors, celebrities and donors who have raised $1.7 million dollars over the years to help meet the special needs of the physically and mentally challenged children and adults of Western Pennsylvania. Tournament chair Jim McCarl described honorary chair Tony Dorsett as "a sincere, emotional, hard-working supporter who has always had the McGuire clients in his heart and soul over these past 10 years." Like-minded supporters included McGuire board chair Bill Uricchio with Toni, Rocky Bleier, Dan Rains, Randy Holloway, Johnny Majors, Sam Spanos, Bill Camp, Gus Kwidis, Jim Morse, Mark May, Lynne Marchese and Dennis Sabatini.
Women of Spirit
Demonstrating once again that there is no such thing as the weaker sex, the Carlow College Women of Spirit committee honored Margaret Petruska and Laurie Moser on Wednesday. As two of this year's Women of Spirit honorees, the reception for them at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel drew an army of admirers including college president Sister Grace Ann Geibel, Robert and Alex Moser (husband and son of Laurie) and Julia Petruska (Marge's daughter). Also there to enjoy the socializing were Helen Hanna Casey and her sister Annie Cestra, Carolyn Duronio, Carol Caroselli, Ruth Garfinkel, Bill Isler and Elsie Hillman.

More Here Than You Know
The Northside Leadership Conference presented its 2002 Tourism and Visitation Report at a buzz-filled joint reception with the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Alliance on Wednesday night in the Hazlett Theater. Staff members Chris Taylor and Dana Jaros and consultant Yvonne Campos pitched the new "More Here Than You Know" slogan to a receptive crowd, while state tourism director Fritz Smith updated the group on the state's fastest-growing industry. Dipping into the delectables provided by Linda Iannotta Catering were GPAA director Julie Farr, Councilwoman Barbara Burns, eight members of the Teen Advisory Board for Prime Stage, the Warhol's Colleen Criste and Attack Theatre's Michele de la Reza and Peter Kope.
