Man killed in crowded Wilkinsburg barbershop

A man was fatally shot yesterday by a someone who walked into a crowded Wilkinsburg barbershop.

Lawrence Whitehead, 33, was gunned down shortly after 1 p.m. in Ezell's Barber Shop in the 1800 block of Montier Street near Laketon Road.

Witnesses said a man walked into the shop with a handgun. A customer sitting in a chair waiting for a haircut rushed at the gunman and struggled with him.

As that happened, customers and employees rushed for the doors.

Witnesses said they heard as many as five gunshots but didn't see which way the shooter fled.

At the time of the shooting, witnesses said all five barber chairs and all the waiting room chairs were filled.
