Friday, November 06, 2009

The nation's unemployment rate rose in October to 10.2 percent, as the number of those out of work increased by more than half a million people, to 15.7 million, according to the monthly household survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics released this morning.

In the separate survey of payroll employment, the bureau found that 190,000 non-farm jobs were lost, with manufacturing, construction and retail trades all taking deep cuts.
