Freshman Misha Demchuk scored 2:52 into the second overtime as Seneca Valley advanced to its second WPIAL title game in three years with a 2-1 win against Canon-McMillan in a WPIAL Class AAA girls' soccer semifinal last night at Chartiers Valley.
The Raiders (20-0-1) held a 22-3 edge in shots in winning for the 18th consecutive time.
"We bombarded their goal but things weren't falling for us," Raiders coach Dave Sylvester said.
Penn State recruit Taylor Schram scored 26:49 into the game for the Big Macs (16-6).
Seneca Valley will play Peters Township in the final at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. All five WPIAL soccer title games for boys and girls will be played that day at Elizabeth Forward.
Peters Township 2, Norwin 1: Hannah Caso and Danielle Hume scored and Megan Junker made seven saves as the Indians (18-1-2) remained unbeaten in their past 15 with a win at North Allegheny. Caso's goal came 3:14 into the game. Hume scored 1:50 into the second half, but 55 seconds later Ariel Shasko scored for Norwin (16-4-1) on a header.
South Park 1, Beaver 0: Cassie Raymond scored her 22nd of the season 22 minutes into the first half to lead the Eagles (18-1-2) to their fourth consecutive WPIAL title game appearance with a win at Mars.
"We had a lot of possession in both halves," Eagles coach Shelly Thropp said. "Their goalkeeper [Brianna Hellier] played a tremendous game."
Beaver (16-2), which had a 16-game winning streak snapped, had nine shots on goal but freshman Siera Davis had the shutout. South Park had 14 shots.
Mt. Lebanon 4, Norwin 3: Zach Batteer's second goal of the game and 22nd of the season came with 6:49 left in overtime as the Blue Devils (18-1-1) won a thriller at North Allegheny.
Batteer appeared to score the winner when he made it 3-2 with a minute to play in regulation. But Chad Brown of Norwin (15-5-1) tied it 35 seconds later.
Conor Wohlfarth also had two goals for Mt. Lebanon, which has won for the 17th time in 18 games.
State College 2, Peters Township 1: The visiting Little Lions defeated the WPIAL champion Indians in a PIAA Class AAA tournament play-in game.
Hopewell running back Rushel Shell won't play in tomorrow night's WPIAL football playoff game against Derry because he broke a school rule. Shell, a sophomore, finished the regular season as the WPIAL's leading rusher.
