Q: I have a friend that is convinced that Daryll Clark has one more year of eligibility remaining and that is why Pat Devlin transferred to Delaware. If Darryl has only this year left, is Kevin Newsome likely to be the starter next year?
Bill Kampert, Wilmington, Del.
MUSSELMAN: Bill, if you and your buddy have a bet on this, then he owes you dinner. Clark is a senior using up his final year of eligibility. He attended one year of Kiski School to get his academics in order before enrolling at Penn State. Clark has 18 touchdown passes, which rank him six nationally. Newsome, the backup, has seen limited duty, completing 8 of 11 passes for 66 yards. He also has 16 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. Newsome appears to be the favorite to start next year. Then again, there are some talented freshmen quarterbacks in the Class of 2010, so you never know for sure.
