Woman stabbed, estranged roommate held in Sharpsburg
Tuesday, November 03, 2009

A woman was seriously wounded early today during a fight with her estranged roommate.

Deloris Johnson, 28, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian after she was found by Sharpsburg firefighters at about 1:30 a.m.

She was screaming in pain, lying on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of Main Street. She had been stabbed in the back and the arm, police Chief Leo Rudzki said.

Ms. Johnson told police she had been attacked by her estranged roommate, Tiffany Pearson, 34, of Lawrenceville.

Ms. Johnson had been living temporarily with a friend, Shanara Reid-Brinkley in Sharpsburg when Ms. Pearson went to the residence to confront her overnight, the chief said.

The two women argued before Ms. Johnson was stabbed.

Firefighters had just extinguished a kitchen fire in the 900 block of Clay Street.

A cabinet above a microwave oven had caught fire around 10:30 p.m. last night in the one occupied unit in a three-apartment dwelling, Chief Rudzki said.

Firefighters had been returning to the firehouse when they spotted Ms. Johnson.

After she identified her assailant, Ms. Pearson was arrested by Officer Brian Hobbel.

The suspect was awaiting arraignment this morning on charges that include aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
