District Roundup: RMU kicks up a 9-7 victory

Garrett Clawson kicked three field goals and Raphael Johnson rushed for 115 yards on 27 carries to lead Robert Morris to a 9-7 Northeast Conference victory against Sacred Heart yesterday at Joe Walton Stadium.

Clawson made field goals from 23, 35 and 35 yards to give the Colonials (2-6, 2-3) a 9-0 advantage in the fourth quarter. Johnson led a Robert Morris ground game that totaled 202 yards.

The Pioneers (1-7, 1-5), who were held to 1 yard rushing, cut the Colonials' lead to 9-7 with 5:28 left. But Sacred Heart was unable to get the ball back.

• Wagner 23, Duquesne 17: Wagner (5-3, 4-1) scored a touchdown in the second overtime to defeat the Dukes (2-7, 1-5) in an NEC game at Rooney Field. Cleo Williams rushed for 174 yards for Duquesne.

• Carnegie Mellon 21, Washington 13: The Tartans (5-3, 1-0) recovered three fumbles and intercepted a pass in the home University Athletic Association victory. Justin Pratt rushed for 97 yards for CMU.

• Grove City 35, Waynesburg 24: Andrew DiDonato passed for 172 yards and ran for another 72 as Grove City (3-5, 2-2) topped visiting Waynesburg (4-4, 1-3) in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

• Geneva 54, Bethany 21: The Golden Tornadoes (7-1) rolled up 559 yards total offense in defeating visiting Bethany (2-6). Gerard Muschette ran for 153 yards for Geneva.

• Gannon 29, IUP 3: IUP (4-6, 1-6) managed just 116 yards of offense in the home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division loss.

• California 29, Mercyhurst 7: The Vulcans (8-2, 7-0) earned the PSAC West title outright with the home victory and will play at Shippensburg Saturday in the PSAC title game.

• Slippery Rock 47, Lock Haven 6: Akeem Satterfield rushed for 107 yards and two scores as the Rock (6-4, 3-4) won at winless Lock Haven in the PSAC West.

• Clarion 30, Edinboro 17: Tyler Huether passed for 169 yards and rushed for 91 in leading Clarion (7-3, 6-1) to the PSAC West road win.

• West Liberty 48, Seton Hill 21: West Liberty (9-0, 7-0) cruised past visiting Seton Hill (1-9, 0-8). Quarterback Nick Monteleone passed for 235 yards for Seton Hill.
