Got a great idea for a fund-raising bike race? Think people would turn out to your group's festival? Did your last event go so well you want to do it again?
Now is the time to apply to the Allegheny County Parks Department to use park facilities in 2010.
The county began accepting applications for organized road races and walkathons last week.
To apply for a permit, request an Activity Proposal Form. Call the parks' central office at 412-350-2455 or the North Park office at 724-935-1766, or get forms online at www.alleghenycounty.us/parks. Nonprofit groups should provide proof of tax classification status with applications. All applicants must submit a certificate of insurance indicating the group's name and date of event, and including Allegheny County and its employees and other personnel as among those covered by the insurance.
Activity Proposal Forms and written requests must be received by the Parks Department by Feb. 26. Applicants will be informed of potential service costs and registration fees.
Approval is determined by availability of park facilities and staff, and the applying organizations' level of success with previous activities. First consideration goes to charitable events.
Applicants whose events are approved will get an authorization letter. All fees and costs must be paid in full to the county within 10 days of receiving the letter. For more information, contact the Allegheny County Parks Department at 412-350-2313.
Does the activity you have in mind include rental of an Allegheny County park facility? Go to www.alleghenycounty.us/parks and click on "forms" to rent a grove, skating rink, lodge, horse show ring, fire house, ranch house, cabin, cottage, gazebo, or other facilities.
