You readers have flooded my mailbox this past week with stories of the wines listed in last week's column on new Chairman's Selections (see also post-gazette.com/food) being unavailable. I have mentioned previously the best way to handle that but for those who are having problems, I'll repeat it. Those wines are definitely in Western Pennsylvania and the way to find them is:
Go to the ingenious Web site PAWineTalk.com and open the "wine availability map" tab on the left side. When that page opens, enter the code number for the wine you want. A map of the entire state will pop up showing exactly how many bottles are available in any store as well as the name, address and phone number of the stores. You can call and ask the salesperson to have as many bottles as you wish from that location shipped to your local store. It may take a few weeks but that service is free. If you're in a store and a salesperson tells you they are sold out, ask him to check the PLCB system and find the wine in another store and have it transferred to your store. I checked the Gallo Sonoma Reserve Pinot Noir that many of you were told was unavailable and found hundreds of bottles still in stores. If you have difficulties with the store personnel, I'd like to know about it.
