Tuesday, June 30, 2009

The man who died during a weekend canoeing accident in Taylor Township, Lawrence County, has been identified.

Gregory Radich was canoeing on the Beaver River, about a mile down from the Reliant Energy Power Plant, when his canoe tipped.

Taylor Township Assistant Fire Chief Bill Anderson Sr. believes Mr. Radich died of a heart attack, noting that he was not under the water for a long period of time.

The Lawrence County coroner's office could not be reached to confirm.

Rescue crews found Mr. Radich and a female passenger believed to be his girlfriend clinging to a log on the side of the river, Chief Anderson said.

Another couple, who were canoeing with Mr. Radich and his girlfriend, called 911 and reported that he was unconscious.
