Dan Rooney's rookie season starts Thursday.
After his speedy confirmation by the U.S. Senate last week, the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland is scheduled to arrive in Dublin July 2. According to the U.S. embassy, the Steelers owner is expected to present his credentials to Mary McAleese, the Irish president, on Friday, and then assume his duties with a round of receptions and the traditional embassy party marking Independence Day.
The first official appearance for Mr. Rooney is a luncheon with the American Chamber of Commerce Friday. Since July 4 falls on Saturday, the embassy fete is set for Friday evening.
