Rachel Alexandra rolls to 191/4-length victory

Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra romped to a 19 1/4-length victory in the $300,000 Mother Goose yesterday, splitting Flashing and Malibu Prayer on the far turn at Belmont Park and pulling away down the long front stretch to win in a stakes-record 1:46.33.

She started as a 1-9 favorite in a field of 3-year-old fillies reduced to three by two late scratches and won her seventh race in a row.

Rachel Alexandra paid $2.10, with no place or show wagering due to the short field. Malibu Prayer finished second.

Asjha Jones had season highs with 24 points and 12 rebounds as host Connecticut beat Atlanta, 82-68, in the WNBA. ... Ebony Hoffman scored 14 points and Tamika Catchings added 13 points and 11 rebounds as visiting Indiana grabbed a 63-54 victory against New York. It was the Fever's franchise record-tying sixth win in a row. ... Candice Dupree knocked in 23 points to spark host Chicago to a 68-63 victory against Washington. ... Candice Wiggins and Roneeka Hodges scored 22 points each, leading host Minnesota to a 109-80 win against Phoenix.

Soccer

Real Madrid completed the transfer of Ronaldo from Manchester United. The 24-year-old winger will be a Madrid player July 1 after agreeing to a six-season deal. The move is worth a record $131 million. Terms of his contract were not disclosed, but Spanish reports put the figure as high as $18 million per season.

Swimming

Federica Pellegrini of Italy set a world record in the 400-meter freestyle at the Mediterranean Games. Pellegrini, the Olympic champion and world record-holder in the 200 freestyle, finished in 4 minutes, 0.41 seconds to lower the mark of Jo Jackson of Britain by 0.25 seconds. Germany's Britta Steffen also set a world record in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing in 52.56 seconds. She shaved :29 of a second off her previous record.
