The author of a new book about Negro Leagues star Satchel Paige will appear today at an art exhibit on the North Side.

Larry Tye, author of "Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend," will read excerpts from his book from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. as part of the Nia Fabric Arts Exhibit, 1205 Boyle St. Paige played for the Pittsburgh Crawfords.

The free show continues through Sunday and is sponsored by the Young Men and Women's African Heritage Association. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. each day.

The event coincides with the African-American Heritage Weekend Celebration sponsored by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the African-Amercian Chamber of Commerce.
