Dear Judge Mariani,

We are a group of 500-plus dental and post-graduate dental students who attended Northwestern University Dental School along with Dr. Robert Boyda Jr. We all knew of his "habits" at that time, 17 to 21 years ago, and none of us are at all surprised by his current situation. He has been this way for a long time, and IN FACT he did some of the same types of things for which he is standing trial at this time. You need to know this. Therefore, it is unacceptable that he be exonerated or given probation or simply asked to get help. He MUST go to prison for a long time, and yes, get psychiatric . . . help while he is in prison. We are fearful that when any one person, yourself, is in a position to adjudicate him, anything can happen, and we all know of your (incorrect) rulings in some cases of this general type. Please be informed that anything other than a guilty verdict AND a LONG prison sentence will be unacceptable to us, all of his victims past and present and their families. If his defense argument were true and valid (that the drugs used during anesthesia produce sexual hallucinations) there would be hundreds or perhaps thousands or oral surgeons standing trial for the same charges, as many, if not most, use this same drug. Instead there are NONE only Dr. Boyda Jr. We all know (including you) that Dr. Boyda is guilty, has no legitimate defense and that his 17 to 20 recent victims involved in this trial are telling the truth. We could allow for one of the victims to be mistaken, or imagining something or "hallucinating," but not the others. It is simply impossible. Therefore if he is found anything other than guilty, our problem will not be with Dr. Boyda Jr., but rather with YOU and we are prepared to do what would be appropriate in our group consensus opinion at that time. For now, know that we are all watching and awaiting your decision. If it is as it should be, we will have no further contact, if not, well enough for now.
