German folk dancing involves a bit of foot-stomping, hand slapping and (at least for the women involved) twirling -- all of it carefully choreographed and timed. Here, members of Alpen Schuhplattler und Trachtenverein perform a classic dance in the Sangerhalle of the Teutonia Mannerchor, the German social and singing club founded in 1854. The festivities were part of the group's 45th Stiftungsfest, or Founders Day Celebration. Some of the dancers are third-generation members.
