25th Annual Family House Polo event
Saturday, September 13, 2008

The rains held fast, keeping the crowd of 2,000 dry at the 25th annual Family House Polo, presented by National City. Though dark clouds threatened Saturday afternoon, they never delivered in deference to the anniversary of this early fall tradition. More than $300,000 was raised to support the three (soon to be four!) Family Houses, all of which provide a "home away from home" for patients and their families who are in Pittsburgh to undergo medical procedures. Many were at the match, including Syracuse resident Julie Trahan, who has been staying with Family House since April 30 as she undergoes four organ transplants. She joined a host of longtime supporters, from the extended Hanna Real Estate clan (Hoddy and Mary Anne Hanna, Dennis and Annie Cestra and Steve and Helen Casey), sponsors of the Great Meadows Club, and Rob and Christina Cochran of #1 Cochran, sponsors of the Potomac Polo Club. Leading the pack was National City Bank, which had some 500 guests in its tent. Vintage cars, fabulous tailgating by the city's top caterers, boutique shopping and children's activities rounded out the festivities. And ending the day was an after-party and fashion show by Linda Bucci at the Hartwood Mansion.
