A car struck and killed a Butler County woman last night in Winfield, state police said.

The Allegheny County medical examiner identified the woman as Shirley Davidson, 58, of Saxonburg.

Ms. Davidson had been walking across Route 356, known locally as North Pike Road, at 9:20 p.m. when she was struck by a southbound van.

The accident occurred near Davidson's Restaurant, state police said.

Ms. Davidson was taken by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital, where she died at 11:13 p.m., the medical examiner said.

No injuries were reported to the driver of the van, Christine Trischler, 30, nor her three passengers, Pettrece Melfi, 54, and two juveniles, all of Natrona Heights, state police said. All of the occupants of the van had been wearing seat belts.

The driver also has not been cited for any violations, investigators said.
