SportsWorks to close Aug. 24; new location coming in 2009
Monday, August 04, 2008

Carnegie Science Center will close its SportsWorks exhibition building Aug. 24 while it prepares to break ground later this year for a new site adjacent to the main Science Center building and open an expanded exhibition facility there in summer 2009.

SportsWorks opened in 2001 in the former Miller Printing Co. building near the Science Center. That property was purchased last year by the Port Authority of Allegheny County for its North Shore light rail extension.

Several popular exhibits, including the trampoline and the orbitron human gyroscope, will move to the main Science Center while SportsWorks is closed. Also, the portion of the building housing "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" will remain open until Sept. 1, when the traveling exhibit is scheduled to complete its run here.
