State police have decided to sell five of their seven single-engine airplanes.

The public is eligible to purchase the Cessna 182 planes, which cost anywhere from $86,000 to $188,000, depending on their age. The planes have four seats, with an option for two child seats to be added in the baggage area.

The aircraft were used for such tasks as tracking criminals and finding missing people, Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said.

"These Cessna 182s have provided vital aerial support for state police operations and for other law enforcement agencies across the commonwealth," Col. Miller said.

"Because of their key role in our department's day-to-day functions, these aircraft have been maintained to the highest standards by our expert aviation mechanics."

The planes will be replaced with four Cessna 206 models, bringing the police's fleet to six propeller planes and eight helicopters.
