Black Tie & Tailpipes
Saturday, July 19, 2008

The 11th annual Black Tie & Tailpipes Gala took Enchanted Tuscany as the theme for its dinner and auction, reflecting the Italian marque cars that will be featured during the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix this weekend.

The gala was held last Saturday at the Fox Chapel Golf Club -- the perfect place to show off some fabulous vintage automobiles. They were parked on the lawn during cocktails, giving the 200 or so guests a preview of cars to come.

Silent and live auctions were followed by a Tuscan dinner and gracious remarks from Elizabeth Cope, daughter of the late Myron Cope. He was honored posthumously for helping to found the PVGP and for donating the proceeds from his Terrible Towel to the Allegheny Valley School for the profoundly disabled, a recipient with the Autism Society of Pittsburgh of the race proceeds (more than $2 million to date!).

The evening raised $62,000 and ended with the Billy Price Band, always a pleasure.
