W.Va. students collecting money for Sudan at PNC Park
Saturday, July 12, 2008

Nearly 200 of West Virginia's foremost high school students will be at PNC Park today collecting money for a foundation set up by one of the former "Lost Boys" of Sudan.

The students are from the three-week-long Governor's Honors Academy in Bethany, W.Va. The 181 rising high school seniors decided on the fund-raising effort after hearing John Dau, now 34, describe his 14-year ordeal to reach the United States.

Mr. Dau, now an American citizen, is president of the John Dau Sudan Foundation, which provides financial and technical support to build and sustain health care clinics in southern Sudan. His story was chronicled in the 2006 documentary "God Grew Tired of Us."
