Just a spray away

Teres Lucot, owner of Trunk Shows Boutique, next to samples of Sprayology.

"I never took vitamins until I bought these because I hate to take pills," Teres Lucot confesses. She's not alone. Many people have an aversion to swallowing pills, especially the mega-sized one that most vitamins seem to require. Ms. Lucot is the owner of Trunk Shows Boutique, a trendy clothing and accessories shop in the South Hills that brings in a different trunk show each month. It could be alpaca coats, silver jewelry, whatever catches her eye.

That's how she discovered Sprayology during a trade show in New York. The idea that she could spray vitamins and holistic remedies beneath her tongue intrigued her enough to try the products. So did the fact that places such as the Greenbrier, Bellagio and Ritz-Carlton hotels stock their rooms with the products.

"I absolutely love the spray, and it doesn't have a funny taste," she says. Because the spray is done under the tongue, "it has better absorption because you lose some of the potency of a pill in the digestive process," Ms. Lucot contends.

Sprayology is a line of all-natural homeopathic and vitamin oral sprays designed to address a host of conditions. They claim to rejuvenate, relieve, restore and rebuild with a host of very specific products. Unlike drugs, which do all the work, homeopathic medicines cause your immune system to react to their presence, stimulating it to work on your behalf. Sprayology products are sold over the counter and, according to its Web site, said to be doctor-formulated and 99.9 percent organic. They use non-genetically modified corn alcohol (good news for those with wheat allergies!) to propel the remedies quickly through the membrane.

What can they do?

According to the Sprayology.com Web site:

• DietPower ($32) says it supports weight loss by relieving diet symptoms including hunger, food cravings, low energy and water retention as it helps to balance the metabolism. Two sprays 15 minutes before mealtime is the recommended dose.

• StressLess ($24) aims to restore calm as it helps to relieve anxiety, nervousness, mood swings and irritability.

• Party Relief ($20) claims to prevent and relieve alcohol-related discomfort (read hangovers!). A few sprays before, during and after combat headache, dehydration, nausea, sluggishness and liver toxicity.

• MenoPower ($24) says it energizes the menopausal woman by temporarily relieving symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance. ManPower and WomanPower (both $32) claim to help with decreased sex drive, low energy and the blues.

• BoneBuilder ($24) claims to enhance calcium absorption; SleepEase ($20) claims to tackle restlessness and insomnia; TravelEase ($20) claims to assist with jet lag; and AllergEase ($20) says it targets hay fever and allergy symptoms.

Ms. Lucot has tried practically all of them and even keeps StressLess on her bedside table. She said some, such as DietPower, work better the longer you take them. "It makes really sugary stuff taste bad, like you don't want to eat it." Now that would be worth its weight in M&Ms!

Trunk Shows Boutique is at 30 Donati Road near Fort Couch Road; 412-833-6467. Online, it's available through trunkshowsboutique.com or sprayology.com.
