A panorama of Pittsburgh
Saturday, July 05, 2008

A remarkable record of Pittsburgh's past compiled by guest curator Chris Lane (co-owner of the Philadelphia Print Shop and a regular on "Antiques Roadshow") was unveiled with an opening reception June 27 at The Frick Art & Historical Center in Point Breeze.

"A Panorama of Pittsburgh: Nineteenth Century Printed Views" attracted a crowd of 300 to the museum for drinks, hors d'oeuvres and a first glimpse at the 130 printed artifacts that will be on display through Oct. 5.

Taken from books, magazines, newspapers, maps, prints, lithographs, advertisements and other materials, the exhibition had many vowing to return with magnifying glasses while others looked for links to the present.

The socializing took place outside on a rare dry night and under a big white tent, where Frick director Bill Bodine mingled with many of the collectors who lent pieces to the museum, including Harley Trice, Bruce Wolf, Heather Semple, Andy Masich, artist George Nama and Graham Shearing.

Enjoying the perfect summer evening were board chair Dan Fales with Nancy, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art's Judy O'Toole with husband Kevin, Chris Romero, Dr. Brack and Jean Anne Hattler, Bonnie and Dick Anton, Alice Snyder, Tom and Audrey Hilliard, Ellen and Jay Brooks, Mark Joensen, Bill Trueheart and Carol Word, Susie and Ray Dorrance, Sam and Debbie Berkowitz, Betsy and Chuck Watkins, Vicky Clark, Mark Power, and Josh and Farley Whetzel with daughter Rachel.
