Cleveland man charged with child abuse
Friday, July 04, 2008

A Cleveland man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children after police said he slapped his girlfriend's son and submerged him in hot water.

The 3-year-old boy was taken to Allegheny General Hospital at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with second-degree burns over 40 percent of his body and a perforated ear drum.

Hospital staff also reported to police that the boy had blisters on his ankles and the impression of a handprint on his face.

According to Pittsburgh police, Herbert Jamison, 22, was watching his girlfriend's son overnight Tuesday at an apartment on Progress Street, North Side, while she was working. Police said that when Mr. Jamison saw that the boy had soiled his clothing, he prepared a hot bath. When the child resisted, police say, Mr. Jamison slapped him.

He was arraigned and a straight $10,000 bond was set.
