Pirates designate Bullington for assignment
Thursday, July 03, 2008

MILWAUKEE -- The Pirates today designated right-hander Bryan Bullington for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Chris Duffy.

Bullington, 4-6 with a 5.52 earned run average in 15 starts for Class AAA Indianapolis, was the No. 1 pick overall in the 2002 draft but has struggled mightily to live to up to that status.

The Pirates have 10 days in which to trade Bullington, release him or send him back to Indianapolis if he clears waivers.

Duffy, rehabbing from last year's shoulder surgery, had been on the 60-day disabled list while rehabbing with Class AA Altoona. His 60 days were up and he had to be officially reinstated to the 40-man roster. He was optioned back to Altoona.
