The results of a vote recount for a national scholarship competition sponsored by Henkel Corp. now will be announced Tuesday.
The contest, "Stuck at Prom," challenged students to create prom attire out of Henkel's Duck Brand duct tape, and will award $3,000 each to the winning couple, plus an additional $3,000 to their high school.
Because of suspicions of online vote stacking on the part of the couple in first place, a local couple who is currently in second place is still in the running for the gold.
Center Area High School graduates Sharon Dranko and Joshua Humm, both 18, placed in the Top 10 in the competition in June. Online voting closed on Sunday, and originally, winners were to be announced Tuesday.
When voting closed, the winning couple had received more than 100,000 votes, while last year's competition received slightly more than 50,000 votes total. Ms. Dranko and Mr. Humm received more than 20,000 votes.
The contest operated on a "one vote per person per day" principal, beginning June 13. But because of the unprecedented volume of votes, Henkel is retabulating the results and checking to make sure no contestant used a computer program to generate invalid votes, said Lisa Schwan, a company spokeswoman.
On Tuesday, Ms. Schwan said the company might announce results yesterday, but that date has now been pushed back.
