Fresh Find: Hudson Lunch, New Castle
Thursday, July 03, 2008

Looking for some fireworks for your taste buds?

Should your summer road-tripping take you north to the Lawrence County town of New Castle, drop in at Hudson Lunch on 102 E. Washington St. and ask for the summer "Fireworks Capital of America" menu.

You can order several sandwiches, including the Roman Candle (Italian sausage patty with marinated Italian greens, provolone cheese and homemade marinara sauce) and the M-80 (grilled chicken, etc.) and other items such as the Detonator (fries covered with bacon, onions, cheddar and chili).

Owner Bill Rodgers says his is the first eatery in town (home of Zambelli Fireworks Internationale) to use fireworks names, and he says the food actually tastes good, too.

Leave room for the Sparkler, a giant root beer float, and the Grand Finale, a big mouthful of chocolate pudding sandwiched between two layers of dark, moist chocolate cake.

Hudson Lunch is open 6 a.m.-8 p.m. weekdays, 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays. Call 724-652-4107.
