• The Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Jewish Committee awarded the 52nd Louis Caplan Human Relations Scholarship Award to Shaler Area High School graduate Leah Moushey at the committee's annual meeting and past presidents reception in May at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.

Ms. Moushey received a plaque and a scholarship check for $1,000 from the Pittsburgh chapter of the committee.

• Alex Kaplan, a 2008 graduate of Fox Chapel Area Senior High School, won third place and $100 for his photo, "Pittsburgh Bridges," in Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's annual high school photo contest.

This year's contest theme, "Imagine What You Can Do Here! In Celebration of Pittsburgh 250," challenged teens to portray the region in the new century through a single photograph. Funding for the 2008 contest was provided by the Allegheny Regional Asset District's Renaissance Grant Program.
