Reds beat Pirates, 4-3
Monday, June 30, 2008

CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Jr.'s two-run home run off Matt Capps in the ninth inning gave Cincinnati a 4-3 win against the Pirates tonight.

Griffey, who didn't start, went into the game in right field in the top of the ninth and was the second batter Capps faced. The first, David Ross, doubled into left-center field. Griffey drove an 0-1 pitch into the center field seats for his 603rd career home run.

It was Capps' fourth blown save of the season, all coming in June.

Adam LaRoche homered and drove in three runs for the Pirates.

Paul Maholm had an excellent start, allowing five hits and two runs in seven innings.

More in tomorrow's Post-Gazette.
