Man dies after tree falls on car

A man was killed yesterday when a tree fell on his car during a thunderstorm in Westmoreland County.

Ronald Bates, of Greensburg, was pronounced dead at Westmoreland Hospital after he suffered injuries from the falling tree in Unity.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. along Greensburg/Mount Pleasant Road near the Westmoreland County Fairgrounds.

The thunderstorm that caused the downed tree was part of a line of stormy weather that raced across Western Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon and evening.

This morning, Duquesne Light had 800 customers without power.
