Black's Bridge, open for six months after more than a year of construction, closed again earlier this month for repairs to approaches on both sides of the Crafton Avenue structure.
Michael Facchiano Contracting of Baldwin Township is doing $100,000 worth of concrete work and Amity Paving of Houston, Pa., will be paid $75,000 to apply new asphalt to intersections on each side of the 120-foot bridge.
The bridge reopened in November after a 15-month $235,000 surface repair project. Borough officials expect the bridge to be open to traffic by the end of the month, when concrete work is completed, although traffic may be limited to alternating lanes while asphalt work occurs.
To improve safety, an additional stop sign will be placed at the intersection of Stotz and Bradford avenues making the intersection a three-way stop.
Council also is expected to approve parking restrictions on Stotz and East Crafton avenues and near the intersection of Bradford Avenue and Crafton Boulevard.
The 33rd annual Crafton Celebrates event will begin June 30 and run through July 4 at Crafton Park. Games, food booths, crafts, children's activities and entertainment are featured at the free community celebration held daily from 6 until 9 p.m. On July 4, events begin at 3 p.m. and culminate with a fireworks display by Schaefer Pyrotechnics, Inc. beginning at 9:30. Mayor Susan O'Connell and Fire Chief Roy Hermes will serve as masters of ceremonies for the opening parade on Monday.
The borough's fifth annual 5K race, this year called the Tom Witt Memorial Firecracker race, will be held at 8 a.m. July 4.

Although the Heidelberg Community Park along Industry Way is nearing completion, Manager Joe Kauer asked residents to stay out of the park since it is still an active construction site and has yet to be turned over to the borough.
Work still needs to be completed on the pavilion, park benches and fencing before the park can be opened.
The City Council authorized the South Hills Council of Governments to award a number of contracts for storm sewer and road paving work in the borough.
Joseph Palmieri Construction Inc. was awarded a $25,800 contract for curb improvements on East Railroad Street, while T.A. Robinson Asphalt Paving Inc., received a $26,428 contract for the an extension of the storm sewer on Jackson Street.
Community Development Block Grants from the state will pay 65 percent of the cost for both projects.
T.A. Robinson also received a $52,335 contract for the reconstruction of Jackson Street. A Block Grant will pay for 50 percent of this project.
Mayor Ken LaSota said President Bush approved the release of $2.4 million in federal money for the Route 50 Revitalization project June 6 after the money received Congressional approval.
It will be used for aesthetic and safety upgrades to Carothers Avenue in Scott, Third Street in Carnegie and Route 50 in Heidelberg.
An eight-week project began this week that will restrict traffic at the intersection of Greentree Road and Route 50.
A turning lane will be constructed at the intersection, and new traffic controls are being installed to improve access to the new Walgreens on Route 50.
Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The first of three scheduled concerts -- the 28th season of the summer pool side events -- will be at 8 p.m. Sunday with a free performance by the Davisson Brothers, a classic rock group. The concert was originally scheduled for last week but was canceled because of weather.
Remaining free concerts will be the Dean Martin review July 20 and Jill West/Blues Attack Aug. 17. Both are at 8 p.m.
