The borough soon may address fixing nuisances, including common complaints such as high grass and noise late at night from garbage trucks.
A comprehensive nuisance ordinance was discussed Monday to cover issues for abandoned and junk vehicles, dangerous structures, excessive noise and a miscellaneous list of other problems. Council also discussed adding regulations for cleaning dusty roads.
Council may vote next month to advertise the ordinance. Zoning officer Dan Cottrill said it will be easier to find what he needs if there's one ordinance for all nuisances.
During the June 2 agenda meeting, Manager Terry Hazlett said he wants stricter penalties for violators.
Council voted 6-3 June 9 to rezone properties from residential to commercial abutting the south side of Route 980 from Cecil to property owned by Angelo Falconi and Canonsburg.
Councilmen Ron Cianelli and Joseph Milioto and vice president George Coleman voted no.
Engineer Harvey Treschow recommended council update the borough's zoning map, since three areas have been rezoned in the past nine months. Council voted to have the map updated on disk for no more than $150. Mr. Treschow said he also would print a couple of copies and any other copies could be printed upon request.

Council has approved a conditional use permit for Indevco Properties to develop about 2.4 acres on McDowell Lane for seven town homes and nine carriage houses.
The property would be accessed through a private drive and would encroach on a parking lot owned by the state Fish and Boat Commission, which owns nearby Canonsburg Lake.
Although it would not be possible to expand the width of the private road due to Fish and Boat Commission requirements, council at first asked that the road conform to township specifications in case residents later asked the township to take possession of the road.
Developer Marcus Diniaco said he worked out a property swap with the Fish and Boat Commission and said he would comply with 25 conditions set forth by council, which include construction of sewage lines into the development.
A requirement for sidewalks was dropped by council in favor of a walking trail surrounding the development, where units will sell for between $350,000 and $365,000.
Council members Frank Arcuri, James Berquist, Robert Atkison, David Ball and Robert Lewis approved the measure, but councilwoman Monica Merrell dissented after asking Mr. Diniaco why the number of units couldn't be reduced to accommodate a larger road. Councilman Michael McCaig was absent.
The road will be closed for 10 days. Mr. Subrick will be fined if the project doesn't meet an Aug. 25 deadline.

Supervisors have selected Delta Development of Pittsburgh to perform grant-writing services. The township will negotiate a contract with Delta, whose quoted price is $150 per hour.
Supervisor Robert Hollick questioned the need for a grant writer because the township rarely qualifies for grants. Supervisor Edward Mazur said the purpose of having one "is to have someone ferret out applicable grants."
Supervisor Daniel Piatt said Delta had ideas for creative funding and also offered to help the township seek a portion of the county's share of casino money.
The township is in search of a part-time police officer, and the board voted to advertise the position.
Supervisors agreed to accept $3,200 from the state Department of Transportation for 0.05 acres for a drainage easement for the Zediker Station Road bridge project.
