Mary-Jo Rebelo was named "Woman of the Year" by The Women's Law Association of the Duquesne University School of Law. The "Woman of the Year" is elected by votes of students to "honor the outstanding professional achievements of a Duquesne University School of Law alumna." Ms. Rebelo, a shareholder/director with Houston Harbaugh, concentrates on commercial litigation and employment law.

Penn State scientists Jainendra K. Jain, the Erwin W. Mueller professor of physics, and James Kasting, distinguished professor of geosciences, have been named members of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, a prestigious honorary society and independent policy research center. They are among the 190 new fellows and 22 foreign honorary members drawn from the sciences, the arts and humanities, business, public affairs and the nonprofit sector.

The Engineering News Record lists Kimball as No. 166 for 2008 among the Top 500 Design Firms, up 15 spots from 2007. The company was also ranked No. 13 on the Top 20 Telecommunications Firms List. Engineering News-Record, published weekly by The McGraw-Hill Cos., reports on the engineering, architecture and construction industries.

Dennis L. Travis was named to the "Guide to America's Top Financial Planners" by the Consumer Research Council of America, a Washington, D.C.-based research organization that provides consumers' information guides for professional services throughout America. Mr. Travis is a senior financial planner and MetDESK specialist for MetLife's division of estate planning for special kids and senior retirement specialist.

United States Steel Corp. recognized Fosbel Inc. with its "Outstanding Supplier" award for 2007. Fosbel was selected for excellent performance in safety, quality, cost, customer service and productivity.

Nuel D. Belnap Jr., University of Pittsburgh Alan Ross Anderson distinguished professor of philosophy in Pitt's department of philosophy in the School of Arts and Sciences, and Raymond W. Smith, Pitt Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business alumnus and a former Pitt trustee, have been elected 2008 fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Joyce A. Bender, president and CEO of Bender Consulting Services Inc., was selected as a YWCA Greater Pittsburgh 2008 A Tribute to Women awardee. Ms. Bender was recognized with the Entrepreneur award at the 26th annual A Tribute to Women Leadership Awards Luncheon for helping women and girls reach their personal and professional goals.

Nancy Jaquette, compliance officer for Beaver County Behavioral Health, was named recipient of Gateway Rehab's 2008 Thank You Award, which recognizes enabling people affected by or at risk of addictive diseases and other mental and emotional disorders to lead healthy and productive lives through prevention, education, treatment and research.

The Pittsburgh Regional Alliance was named a top-10 economic development organization by Site Selection magazine based on performance in 2007 in total capital investment in the region, total jobs created, the contributions of the local or regional economic development organization toward the attainment of these numbers, overall economic vitality, depth and breadth of economic strength, diversity of industry, and ability to generate breakthrough deals.

Tube City IMS LLC said its Tube City Division facility in Ecorse, Mich., has passed an extensive quality system surveillance audit, thereby retaining its quality system certification. The audit recognizes an organization's ability to incorporate business objectives with operating effectiveness.
