Pirates recall Bullington, demote Salas
Thursday, May 29, 2008

CINCINNATI -- The Pirates today recalled starter Bryan Bullington from Class AAA Indianapolis and optioned reliever Marino Salas to Indianapolis.

Bullington, 27, was 3-6 with a 5.68 ERA but won three of his past four starts and was named International League pitcher of the week last week. He struck out 46 and walked 17.

Salas, 26, had a 7.00 ERA in seven appearances.

The move was made to give the Pirates some long relief, particularly in light of two poor starts the past two nights by Ian Snell and Tom Gorzelanny. The latter lasted just two-thirds of an inning last night and gave up six runs.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
