Crosby scores 2 as Penguins win Game 3
Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Sparked by two goals from Sidney Crosby, the Penguins climbed back into the Stanley Cup final by holding off a frantic Detroit third period for a 3-2 win tonight at Mellon Arena.

They trail the Red Wings, 2-1, in the series after being shut out in Games 1 and 2 in Detroit. Game 3 is Saturday night at Mellon Arena.

Crosby got the first goal of the game -- and the Penguins' first of the series, after almost 140 minutes -- at 17:25 of the first period.

When Detroit defenseman Brad Stuart's pass went off teammate Henrik Zetterberg in the neutral zone, Crosby pounced on it and carried it into the Red Wings' end. He pushed a drop pass to linemate Marian Hossa, who returned the puck.

Crosby then shot the puck in under goaltender Chris Osgood, who had earned the shutouts in the first two games.

Crosby struck again at 2:34 of the second period when he picked up a power-play goal on a Hossa rebound to make it 2-0.

Detroit cut its deficit in half when Johan Franzen, who missed the first game of the series because of concussion-like symptoms, moved in from the left boards and beat goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury for a power-play goal at 14:48 of the second period.

Adam Hall's strong effort led to the Penguins' third goal. Working from behind the Red Wings net, he put the puck in off Osgood's backside at 7:18 of the third period.

Detroit got that goal back when Mikael Samuelsson scored from along the right boards at 13:17 to make it 3-2.
