Friday, May 16, 2008

CHICAGO -- Tom Gorzelanny allowed four home runs -- two by Alfonso Soriano -- in the Pirates' 7-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs today at Wrigley Field.

The loss made the Pirates 0-7 against the Cubs this season. It also was their 10th consecutive loss to the Cubs dating to last September. The Pirates hadn't lost 10 straight games to the Cubs since August, 1890 through April, 1891 (CQ)

Soriano got the Cubs started quickly with a home run into the left field seats on Gorzelanny's first pitch of the day. Soriano hit a three-run home run in the second inning when the Cubs took a 6-0 lead.

Jason Bay and Doug Mientkiewicz homered for the Pirates in a three-run eighth inning. Xavier Nady singled in the Pirates' other run in the sixth inning.
