Jason Meyers from Clovis, Calif., won his fourth World of Outlaws Sprint Car feature of the year Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway.
Meyers wrestled the World of Outlaws Sprint Car points lead from Craig Dollansky from Elk River, Minn.
Starting third in the 35-lap Commonwealth Clash, Meyers fell to fourth before making his charge to the front taking the lead away from Terry McCarl of Altoona, Iowa, on lap 18.
McCarl held on for second and Chad Kemenah from Findlay, Ohio, was third. Former WoO rookie of the year and two-time All Star Champion Dale Blaney, of Hartford, Ohio, led the first eight laps and held off Dollansky to finish fourth. Dollansky came from the 20th starting spot to finish fifth and trails Meyers by one point in the WoO championship chase.
The World of Outlaws were invaded by outsiders at Lernerville Tuesday. Sprint car racers from as far away as Australia came to Lernerville to compete along side of drivers from central Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Michigan, California, Ohio and Louisiana.
The reason why racers outside the WoO tour came to Lernerville is simple -- to get track time.
Two-time and defending All Star Champion Greg Wilson from Benton Ridge, Ohio, said with all the rainouts and cancellations, full-time drivers need to race.
"I've got to pay the bills at home, make sure the mortgage gets paid," Wilson said. "We're going to race where ever we can, I am lucky that our owner understands.
An impressive group of racers came from central Pennsylvania. Multi-time track champions Fred Rahmer and Lance Dewease came in along with former WoO competitors Greg Hodnett and Chad Layton. Known as members of the 'Pa. Posse,' racers from central Pennsylvania earned the moniker because of their ability to win against the 'Outlaws' when they would race in the mid-state.
"We need to get some races in, this is close to home and we need to take advantage of it while we can," said Hodnett, who moved from Memphis, Tenn., to Thomasville, Pa., several years ago.
Due to economics, former WoO champion Danny "The Dude" Lasoski officially has pulled off the tour saying only that his team is "struggling." Lasoski is only driver outside of the top three in WoO points to win a feature in 2008.
Chris Gleason Jr. and Kevin Gleason, of Johnstown, finished first and fourth, respectively, in a Spec Miata enduro on the road course at Pocono International Raceway.
