CW targets women with new fall shows
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
"Surviving the Filthy Rich" is new to The CW's fall lineup.

Taking a cue from the network's marginal success with "Gossip Girl," a series that gets heaps of press attention and buzz despite low ratings, The CW will continue to target young women with its new offerings, including a spinoff of '90s Fox hit "Beverly Hills, 90210."

Jennie Garth of the original series will be a guest star on the new show, "90210." Garth's Kelly Taylor will be a West Beverly High guidance counselor.

Cult favorite "Reaper" will return at midseason.

Canceled series include "Aliens in America," "Girlfriends" and "Life Is Wild." Reality shows "Beauty and the Geek," "Farmer Wants a Wife" and "Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious" are not on The CW's schedule, and it was previously reported that wrestling show "Friday Night Smackdown!" will leave The CW, migrating to My Network TV.

Last week The CW (on Pittsburgh's WPCW) announced it will outsource its Sunday night time periods, 7-10 p.m., to Media Rights Capital to fill with programing during the 2008-09 TV season. MRC is expected to fill the time with two comedies and two dramas that have not yet been announced.
