The Penguins won a tight game over Philadelphia, 4-2, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final tonight at Mellon Arena, giving them a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Center Max Talbot, who missed the previous three games because of a broken right foot, one-timed a Gary Roberts shovel pass from behind the net to break a 2-2 tie for the game-winning goal at 8:41 of the third period.
The Penguins have won their first seven home games of the postseason and, overall dating to the regular season, have won 15 in a row at Mellon Arena. The seven in a row at home sets a team playoff record.
They are 10-1 this postseason.
The series shifts to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4, Tuesday and Thursday.
Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury won his 17th consecutive start, dating to the regular season.
The Penguins, on a power play, grabbed a 1-0 lead at 10:48 of the first period when Sidney Crosby ripped a shot from the bottom of the right circle that slipped between goaltender Martin Biron and the near goalpost.
At 16:41 of the first period and the teams skating four a side, the Penguins thought they had a 2-0 lead when defenseman Sergei Gonchar's shot bounced off Philadelphia defenseman Derian Hatcher and the puck slid at least partially over the goal line near the right post as Biron reached to glove it.
Crosby, standing over that spot, immediately pointed to the puck, but it was not ruled a goal on the ice, and a lengthy league video review produced a ruling that replays were inconclusive, so the call of no goal stood.
The Flyers tied it, 1-1, at 5:46 of the second period when Jeff Carter one-timed a pass from Joffrey Lupul past Fleury.
The Penguins regained the lead at 13:43 of the second period on Marian Hossa's rebound goal during a power play to make it, 2-2.
The Flyers struck back with 23.2 seconds left in the second period when Mike Richards got around Gonchar near the blue line and scored on a shorthanded breakaway.
After Talbot made it 3-2, Jordan Staal added an empty-net goal for the Penguins.
