"Age of the Universe," a joint project between the physics and calculus students, will be presented by a group of California Area High School students tomorrow during "Classrooms for the Future Student Capitol Day" in Harrisburg.

More than 200 high school students from 32 school districts will converge on the state Capitol and demonstrate their projects created using equipment provided through Classrooms for the Future grants.

Classrooms for the Future has delivered laptops, electronic white boards, projectors, multimedia stations and printers and scanners to help students in grades 9-12 in the fields of math, science, social studies and English.

The first day of classes will be Aug. 27 in the 2008-09 calendar.

There will be no school Nov. 27 to Dec. 1 for the Thanksgiving break, Dec. 24 to Jan. 2 for winter break and April 6 to 10 for spring break.

The last day of classes will be June 11. Commencement will be at 7 p.m. June 11.

McMurray Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Beth Walsh was the grand prize winner of a Smart Board 600i with a projection system and student response devices.

The prize is worth more than $5,800.

She participated in an online survey for the company and her name was drawn from those who participated across the country.

• At Bower Hill Elementary, the teaching team of Robert Tupper, music; Joseph Bratetich, enrichment; Myra Oleynik, librarian; and Kathy Kitner, art; recently was named a recipient of the Best Buy Te@ch Grant.

The team was awarded $2,000 to enhance the "Art of Listening" integrated arts program that blends music, art, and literature. The money will be used to purchase technology equipment to support the objectives of the enriching arts program.

• The third annual high school photography class exhibit will be featured in the main lobby of the township library.

Hundreds of photos from more than 70 high school students will be displayed through Thursday and some are for sale, with proceeds to benefit an expansion project at the library.
