When Route 88 south closes for construction activity at 9 a.m. Monday from McNeilly Road, Overbrook, to Sixth Street/Killarney Drive in Castle Shannon, it will remain closed through 11 p.m. Saturday -- not 11 p.m. Friday as previously reported.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issued a news release today saying that it had mistakenly announced the wrong day.
Northbound traffic will be maintained. PennDOT also said local access will be maintained to such places as Busy Beaver that sits in the middle of the work zone.
Southbound traffic will be detoured via McNeilly Road, Pioneer Avenue, West Liberty Avenue and Connor Road back to Route 88. Local residents familiar with alternate routes may be better off using them because of expected delays at peak traffic periods.
PennDOT is spending $4.3 million to widen, realign and upgrade the 0.6-mile stretch of Route 88, a project that began last year with hillside excavation and stabilization near Busy Beaver.
