It took 31 years for a Robert Morris women's player to record a triple-double.
Senior forward Chinata Nesbit has done it twice in the past four games, including in a 77-62 win against No. 7 seed St. Francis, N.Y., in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference tournament at Long Island University's Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center in Brooklyn.
Nesbit recorded 18 points, pulled down a career-high 24 rebounds and dished out 10 assists to back-up her selection as a first team All-NEC player.
She posted the program's first triple-double Feb. 25 when she had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists in an 87-53 win against Mount St. Mary's.
Yesterday, Nesbit went 5 of 21 from the floor and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line for the Colonials (21-9).
Nesbit, along with junior guard Angela Pace outrebounded the Terriers, 41-31. Pace finished with 17 rebounds, tying a career high, while posting 18 points, also tying a career high. Junior guard Sade Logan, the NEC player of the year, finished with a game-high 25 points, going 10 of 26 from the field and 4 of 10 from 3-point range.
Junior guard Kendra Williams continued her hot shooting from long range, going 3 of 4 from beyond the arc to finish with 10 points.
The No. 2-seeded Colonials move on to the NEC semifinals at 4:30 p.m. today against No. 6 Monmouth, a 75-70 winner against No. 3 Sacred Heart.
Tiffany Hill had a team-high 24 points for St. Francis, N.Y. (10-20).
The Colonials finished with a 53-31 rebounding advantage. Robert Morris shot 38.9 percent (28 of 72) from the field and 46.7 percent (7 of 15) from three-point range. Long Island hit 43.6 percent (24 of 55) of its shots.
Ohio Valley: The Murray State Racers (24-7) are heading to the NCAA tournament. This time, it's the women making history. Amber Guffey scored 27 points and Ashley Hayes added 17 to lead Murray State to the tournament title and its first NCAA berth with a 69-58 victory against Eastern Illinois (19-13) in Nashville, Tenn. The Murray State men are used to championships and NCAA berths. The men's team has won 13 OVC tournament titles and made 13 NCAA tournament appearances. The women? Well, their only championship had been the 1929 Mississippi Valley Conference tournament title in Murray State's first season of women's basketball. They were invited to the 1932 AAU national tournament but could not go. That won't be a problem now.
Atlantic Sun: Latisha Belcher wanted to redshirt this season because of her injured knees. Instead she's headed to the NCAA tournament with an Atlantic Sun Most Valuable Player award in hand. Belcher had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead East Tennessee State (21-11) to its first NCAA tournament berth with a 75-72 win against Jacksonville (23-9) in the championship game.
Atlantic Coast: Wanisha Smith matched a career-high with 22 points and No. 12 Duke (23-8) upset fifth-ranked Maryland (30-3), 74-63 in the semifinals at Greensboro, N.C. ... Rashanda McCants had 23 points and 10 rebounds despite spraining her ankle in the first half to help No. 2 North Carolina (29-2) beat Virginia (23-9), 80-65, in the other semifinal.
Big Ten: Danielle Campbell scored 20 points, and Purdue (17-14) overcame an early 17-point deficit to beat Iowa (21-10), 80-73, in the semifinals at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Atlantic 10: Jessica Adair scored 12 points, Kimberly Beck added 11 points, 6 assists and 5 steals and No. 13 George Washington (25-5) breezed past Rhode Island (13-18), 70-43, in the quarterfinals in Philadelphia.
Conference USA: Natasha Lacy scored a game-high 25 and Jareica Hughes added 21 to help No. 18 UTEP (27-2) cruise to its first conference title game with a 86-69 win against Southern Mississippi (19-13) in Orlando, Fla.
