The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for the region through 7 p.m. today.
Up to 3 inches of snow is expected today and another inch is forecast for this evening, according to the Weather Service. Periods of freezing rain and sleet are expected before 11 a.m., then periods of rain possibly mixed with snow before a change-over to all snow this afternoon. Temperatures should reach a high of 31.
A winter storm warning is in effect through early tomorrow morning for Erie and other areas north of Pittsburgh. Last night, a late winter snow storm dumped nearly 6 inches of snow in Erie and up to 10 more inches could fall through today in northwestern Pennsylvania, according to the Weather Service.
The storm prompted the postponement of some PIAA basketball playoff games scheduled for yesterday and today until Sunday.
The Weather Service has also issued a flood advisory for the Ohio River, which continues to rise slowly as a result of yesterday's rains.Check for weekend school and event closings at KDKA-TV 2's kdka.com.
