Pirates keep most minor-league managers
Tuesday, January 15, 2008

The Pirates will have a new manager for their Class A short-season affiliate in State College, Brad Fischer, but all other managers will return to their posts.

Fischer, announced last month as the team's minor-league catching coordinator, will give up that role as the season nears and replace Turner Ward. His top coach will be Sid Bream, a former Pirates first baseman.

Trent Jewett will remain with Class AAA Indianapolis, Tim Leiper with Class AA Altoona, Jeff Branson with high Class A Lynchburg, Gary Green with low Class A Hickory and Tom Prince with rookie-level Bradenton.

More details in tomorrow's Post-Gazette.
