The Steelers still have plenty to play for -- they could land the third or fourth seed in the postseason -- and pride is always a factor when facing the hated Baltimore Ravens.

One hundred years ago today, 145,000 people who had gone to sleep the night before in Allegheny City woke up in Pittsburgh. Two to one, they were not happy about it.

Stripped of political identity overnight, Allegheny went forward as the North Side. Many Alleghenians, however, mourned the loss.

With a snip of the ribbon, the 31st Street Bridge opened for traffic again on Wednesday.

The bridge, which crosses the Allegheny River and connects with Route 28, had been closed since February 2006.

Pittsburgh International Airport prepared for holiday travelers Wednesday, but all was calm early in the day.

Travel experts were forecasting a 4 percent jump this year in air passenger traffic.

Nov. 19, 2007 ~ Video: Penguins score with turkey giveaway


You may remember the Penguins hand-delivering season tickets to a few of their fans in the pre-season. This time around, their goal is to help create a happier Thanksgiving for local families.

Today at the Bedford Dwellings Hope Center in the Hill District, Penguin players Colby Armstrong, Max Talbot, Georges Laraque and Kris Letang distributed 150 turkeys to families in need.

Nov. 19, 2007 ~ Video: Steelers' Batch plans housing at old Homestead bakery


Gov. Ed Rendell awarded $4.8 million in Housing Finance Agency grants to five developments in Allegheny County and one each in Westmoreland and Butler counties.

The most notable grant was $480,000 for a company owned by Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch to convert the former Homestead Bakery building on East Seventh Avenue into 16 apartments and six commercial spaces.

Conventional wisdom would infer that the Steelers should romp in this game, but conventional wisdom doesn't always apply in the National Football League, where every team -- even one with a 1-8 record -- is "dangerous" according to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

The iconic Heinz Ketchup sign, first unveiled in 1995, has a new home.

It was installed today atop the Senator John Heinz History Center in the Strip District.

The red-and-white neon sign -- it's a giant bottle of ketchup that empties and refills itself every 30 seconds -- is made of steel and aluminum and stands more than 42 feet high and 32 feet wide.

Author Stewart O'Nan, who has produced 10 novels and two nonfiction books in 13 years, has a reputation for letting the reader's imagination consider the greater implications of his writing while he sticks to the story and character.

O'Nan's new novel, "The Last Lobster," is a 146-page look at the last day at a Red Lobster chain restaurant that closed just before Christmas due to slow business.

A wild whitetail deer jumped from the top of a 20 foot wall into the tank of two young polar bears at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium this morning.

If you look at the top right of the screen, you will see the wild deer jump into the polar bear exhibit. The Post-Gazette edited a time-lapsed video provided by the zoo.

Five decades ago, when NFL owners sat down with members of the newly formed players' union and agreed to pay them for pre-season games, the Steelers were represented by 24-year-old Dan Rooney.
