City gets updates on arena casino
Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Representatives of two of the region's largest development projects, the replacement for Mellon Arena and the Majestic Star casino, went before the Pittsburgh Planning Commission today to provide more details about their projects.

The Penguins, who are developing the new arena, showed the commission detailed drawings of the interior and exterior of the facility. The building will be across Centre Avenue from the existing arena, at Centre and Fifth avenues.

The team told the commission it is working with the city to try to provide a pedestrian walkway between Centre and Fifth.

Representatives of casino developer Don Barden didn't have any new drawings to show the commission, but they said they are incorporating the same screening on the Ohio River side of their parking garage as on the rest of the facility. The developer reached an agreement with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl on the garage design.

The briefing is an information session for the commission in advance of Dec. 11 public hearings on the projects.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
