Pittsburgh 250 puts out call for proposals
Tuesday, July 24, 2007
Members of Pittsburgh 250 last night invited more than 100 individuals gathered in the City-County Building to brainstorm ways to mark the city's 250th anniversary next year.

Representatives of labor, church groups and the music and film industries and military re-enactors were just a few of those expressing interest in formulating a commemoration that will not only celebrate the past but also have a lasting impact on the city's future.

Proposals will be divided into three types:

• Regional, involving large areas focusing on long-term value. These projects are eligible for grants of up to $50,000.

• Grass-roots, involving community members. These projects are eligible for grants of up to $5,000.

• Affiliated, which are separate efforts that can be tied into the celebration. There are no funds for these projects, but they will be part of the larger promotional effort.

The deadline for grant applications is Sept. 14. More information is available at www.pittsburgh250.org.
