Pirates close to signing top two draft picks
Wednesday, June 14, 2006

Brad Lincoln, the Pirates' No. 1 draft pick, is all but signed, sealed and waiting to be delivered.

Lincoln, the right-hander from the University of Houston who was the fourth pick overall, and the Pirates have agreed on a signing bonus believed to be around $2.75 million.

Logistics are delaying the official announcement of Lincoln's signing. Lincoln, from Clute, Texas, about 50 miles south of Houston, is scheduled to be in Omaha, Neb., Thursday and possibly the first half of Friday for an announcement about the winner of the Dick Howser award.

The earliest he could be in Pittsburgh to take a physical exam is Friday.

The club also announced today that they have signed their number two selection from this year's amateur draft, Michael Felix, a left-handed pitcher from Troy State University. Terms were not disclosed.

The Pirates have signed 22 of their 50 selections from the draft.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
