Pittsburgh City Council gave final approval Tuesday to legislation barring construction and demolition work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The time limit applies to everything from commercial building to home remodeling, unless the work is being done "within a fully enclosed structure."
The ordinance, sponsored by Councilman William Peduto, also requires apartment building owners seeking zoning decisions to hide trash bins using screens or landscaping.
Mr. Peduto has said the legislation is a response to resident complaints about loud construction activities at night, and about unsightly trash bins placed in front of buildings.
The ordinance now goes to Mayor Tom Murphy, who hasn't said whether he'll sign it.
