A fire this morning damaged the recently renovated Homewood branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh fire bureau said the fire was caused by an electrical problem in a concealed space between the third floor ceiling and the roof.

The four-alarm fire began at 5:44 a.m. Firefighters had to return to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. because the fire rekindledd.

The fire bureau estimated the damage, before the fire rekindled, at $70,000. A spokeswoman for the library said an insurance adjuster and an archivist were on the scene, so the estimate could change.

She credited firefighters with trying to cover books and computers where they could. She said it wasn't clear yet when the building would reopen.

A $3.6 million renovation of the library was completed last year.
